Inscription reads: Edmund Dawkins cures his migraine.
Today is the first posting in yet another of my ongoing artistic pursuits. Unlike my other art blog depicting in-progress and finished fine art paintings (see sidebar link), this blog deals with art and word between the vanilla pages of Moleskine Sketchbooks. Chosen medium will be ink with the occasional addition of other drawing materials such as colored pencil, graphite, and watercolor.
Each of these sketchbooks (four) will be produced using the format as follows:
1) Quirky Worlds ~ humorous, improbable, and sometimes mind-provoking illustrations with descriptive word.
2) Cornucopia ~ whimsical, charming, and fantastical drawings fused with free verse.
3) Then & Now ~ memories of my life's past and present events rendered with narrative story and illustration.
4) Journeys ~ studio and on-site drawings of my road travels.
------------------
For my "Quirky Worlds" book (see picture above), this begins with a two-page spread of the eccentric 'Edmund Dawkins cures his migraine'. Materials used were Hunt Crow Quill Dip Pen holder with #102 nib, Dr. Martin's Black India Ink; Derwent (prussian blue) colored pencil. A touch of gouache was used on frame depicting Edmund's face. I sort of messed up this area mainly because of the grande latte I'd drunk. Needless to say, my hand was shaky. A lesson learned. The text is hand-written. Being a fan of artists like Edward Gorey, Theodor Seuss Geisel, Edward Lear, and surrealists, this will be my little treasure book filled with the sometimes-nonsensical inner workings of my mind.
------------------
In sum, this blog is a new creative adventure and ongoing artistic process utilizing drawing materials and putting word onto paper. The 5" x 8.5" books contain one-hundred pages and once filled, new ones will be used to hold more of my ideas. Also, there will be format additions in the near future.
So with this new beginning, I hope you enjoy this blog and will return often. And remember . . . you're more then welcome to leave comments or email me with your thoughts and/or suggestions.
Until next time . . .
